Better2Know offers a wide range of testing options for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C across the Middle East, including Qatar. Our private STI clinics in Doha and Al Wakrah operate at the highest international standards of quality and care, ensuring you receive the peace of mind you deserve with regards to your sexual health.

As well as sexual health tests and screens for common STIs such as HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis, Better2Know also provides highly accurate testing for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, which The Lancet referred to as a ‘major health concern’ in the Middle East.

If left undiagnosed and untreated, Hepatitis may develop, potentially resulting in cirrhosis, liver failure or liver cancer. So, if you have been experiencing symptoms, or are simply unsure about your Hepatitis status, book an appointment with Better2Know in Doha or Al Wakrah today.

Hepatitis Transmission

Hepatitis A, B and C can each be transmitted sexually, including unprotected vaginal, anal and oral sex. Especially if you or your partner had cuts or tears, that may not be visible to the naked eye, in or around the genital area during intercourse. Hepatitis is passed on through exposure to certain contaminated bodily fluids, such as blood.

As well as sex, sharing needles (for intravenous drug use) or unsterilised personal items such as razors, tattoo guns or body piercing equipment also puts you at a higher risk of infection. In less developed countries, blood transfusions that have not been properly screened also puts you at an elevated risk of contracting Hepatitis.

Hepatitis A can also be transmitted through the faecal-oral route, or through the consumption of contaminated food and water, which can occur in countries where sanitation is poor. With Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, an infected mother may also transmit the infection to her baby.

Hepatitis Symptoms

Signs of a Hepatitis A infection can be mild and may clear after a month. Common symptoms can include fever, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, joint or muscle pain, unusual bowel movements, dark urine, intense itching, and, potentially, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes).

Similarly, those infected with Hepatitis B do not always show outward signs of infection but may start to feel unwell. If symptoms do arise, they can also include vomiting, fatigue, dark urine, jaundice and abdominal pain. If Hepatitis B remains untreated, it can result in liver cancer, liver failure and can even prove fatal.

Hepatitis C can be asymptomatic over a long period. If symptoms do appear, as well as those listed above, they can include aching limbs or joint pain, digestive problems, brain fog or the loss of appetite. Untreated Hepatitis C infections can also result in liver cancer, liver failure and, ultimately, death.

Hepatitis Tests and Screens in Qatar

Better2Know provides a range of screening options in Qatar which include testing for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. You can also choose to combine individual STI tests for other infections to create a more comprehensive sexual health screen.

Better2Know’s Hepatitis Screen will detect the three virus types mentioned above. This popular testing option requires an incubation period of just 28 days, using a single blood sample for swift analysis.

The Better2Know Platinum Screen is our most comprehensive STI testing option, looking for ten STIs. These include: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Herpes I/II, Mycoplasma, Trichomonas and Ureaplasma. A recommended 28-day period of incubation is associated with this confidential screen.

The Early Platinum Screen provides fast, accurate results for the same array of infections after only 14 days of incubation. This reduced period of incubation is due to Better2Know’s advanced PCR technology for the analysis of HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, enabling you to get tested just two weeks after potential exposure.

If you would like to get tested for Hepatitis B and C even sooner, you should consider our Early Detection Screen, which is available across Qatar. This is the earliest available screen for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C and is suitable just 10 days after a sexual encounter.

If you are unsure which testing option is right for you, please contact our Patient Services team and your personal sexual health advisor will be able to assist.
