Most people who have an STI do not have any symptoms. However, there are some signs and symptoms to look out for. If you do notice any of these in you or your partner, then getting tested is a good idea.

STI Symptoms in Women

In women, signs and symptoms can include:

  • Change in normal discharge (colour, smell, texture, volume)
  • Unusual smell from the vagina
  • Itching
  • Pain/ burning when having a pee
  • Pain during sex
  • Rash in genital area or on the body
  • Fever/ aches/ pains
  • Blisters in the genital or oral area
  • Sore in the genital area or mouth
  • Unusual bleeding
  • Change to your menstrual cycle
  • Nausea

STI Symptoms in Men

In men, signs and symptoms can include:

  • Unusual discharge from the penis (colour, smell, texture, volume)
  • Itching in the genital area
  • Pain/ burning when having a pee
  • Painful ejaculation
  • Itchy penis
  • Blisters in the genital or oral area
  • Sore in the genital area or mouth
  • Rash in the genital area or on the body
  • Fever/ aches/ pains
  • Swelling of the testicles/ epididymis/ urethra
  • Rectal pain/ discharge/ bleeding

When to book at STI Test

If you experience any of these symptoms, and have had a new partner in the last three months, then you might have an STI. The only way to know is to get tested. Most STIs are easily curable, and your symptoms should clear up. The quicker you test, the faster your symptoms will go away, and the less damage will be done to you and your partners health.
