Better2Know can arrange your Hepatitis A vaccination for you. At selected locations in the Middle East, Better2Know's private clinics will have an appointment for you which can be arranged around your busy schedule.

Hepatitis A Vaccination

To protect against Hepatitis A infection, you can choose to be vaccinated against the virus. The vaccine will not treat an existing Hepatitis A infection. If you are worried about your Hep A status, you should get tested as soon as possible.

At your confidential appointment at Better2Know’s private clinic, you will be seen by a doctor who will answer any questions you may have. Your Better2Know doctor will then administer the Hepatitis A vaccine to your upper arm or thigh.

One dose of the Hepatitis A vaccine will protect you for one year. Receiving a second dose 6 to 12 months after will increase your Hep A immunity to 20 years before you require a booster.

The Hepatitis A Virus

Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects your liver. The Hepatitis A virus can be passed on through unprotected sex (usually oral and anal) and the ingestion of contaminated water or food. With Hepatitis A, no specific medication is available for treatment. People will usually make a fully recovery within a few months. Once you have recovered, you should have a lifelong immunity to the Hepatitis A virus. In rare circumstances, an untreated Hep A infection can cause liver failure if left undiagnosed and untreated.

Along with vaccinations for sexual health concerns such as Hepatitis A, Better2Know’s private STI clinics also provide a wide range of fast, accurate and confidential testing for over a dozen sexually transmitted infections, including Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A Symptoms

Signs of an Hep A infection may not always be present if you have been infected. If symptoms of Hepatitis A are present, they can develop around four weeks after initial exposure. In the early stages, you may experience:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Sore Throat
  • Cough
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Pain in the upper-right part of your stomach
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Hives (an itchy, raised rash)

These symptoms can last between a few days and a couple of weeks. Following this stage of infection, later symptoms can include:

  • Dark urine
  • Sudden severe vomiting
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Drowsiness and confusion
  • Itchy skin
  • Swelling in the upper-right part of your stomach
  • Pale stools
  • Jaundice
  • A tendency to bruise and bleed easily

In some cases, symptoms can also come and go for up to six months. It is important to get tested for Hepatitis A because, as mentioned earlier, an untreated Hepatitis A infection can trigger further health complications such as liver failure.
