What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is an infection that can spread to humans by ticks infected with the Borrelia bacteria. Lyme disease can be diagnosed by a testing for Borrelia Antibodies IgG/IgM test.
Why consider a Lyme disease test?
A Lyme Disease test should be considered if you find a tick on your body or if you spend time in overgrown, grassy, or wooden areas. If Lyme disease is left untreated it may develop into more serious conditions even if no symptoms are present.
The symptoms of Lyme disease may take several weeks to develop and include:
- A red bump that spreads into a rash with a characteristic ‘bull’s eye’ centre
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle and joint pain
- Stiff neck
- Chills
How does this test work?
Testing for Lyme disease can be carried out by measuring Borrelia Antibodies IgG/IgM in blood.
What tests will you run on my sample?
Your blood sample will be tested for Borrelia antibodies. The presence of Borrelia antibodies demonstrates that your immune system is fighting an infection or has fought an infection.
How will I receive my test results?
You will have access to Better2Know’s confidential and secure online patient platform. A member of Better2Know’s team will also contact you to inform you the results are ready.
What should I do with my results?
Better2Know can help organise a follow-up consultation with a local private doctor or if you prefer you can take your results to your own GP. A doctor can advise you whether any additional testing or treatments are needed.
